Southampton charity Communicare dedicated to eradicating loneliness is taking its annual festive Tree of Light campaign where people sponsor a light to remember a loved-one, online this December.

Due to restrictions, Communicare’s campaign, now in its 12th year, will be virtual, but the charity will have two trees lit-up to spread festive cheer.

Manager, Annie Clewlow said: “Our Tree of Light campaign allows everyone in the city and beyond to remember a lost loved-one at Christmas, as well as supporting our charity, which helps befriend people city-wide.

“This year it will be different. We’re exploring an online pre-recorded switch-on and the Mayor is recording a message of support.  As part of the campaign, one of the pines in the Woolston Millennium Garden will be covered in hundreds of sponsored lights and lit-up by December 7.  We are also having a remembrance tree at St Mark’s Church in Archer’s Road.”

Names of loved ones will also feature in the Daily Echo and in our remembrance book if received by 14th December.
