It was very welcome news to hear earlier that further restrictions will be eased from 4th July and that hopefully cases of the virus are on the downturn - it could be a normal summer yet! In common with the prime minister, we will stop sending daily updates after this week (mainly as there is less to let you know about), but will continue to update you once or twice a week.
Mrs Thomas' reading of Laura's Star was a lovely heartwarming tale and tomorrow Mrs Paul returns with an animal story for you! More chapters also from Mrs Dineen and Mrs Metcalfe.
Tomorrow is Midsummer's Day, a traditional time of celebration ever since ancient times. In the Catholic faith, we celebrate the birthday of St John the Baptist, Jesus' cousin and the man who told people to prepare the way for the Lord, even when people didn't want to listen. Unsurprisingly, St John the Baptist is the patron saint of baptism!
Updated Guidance on Shielding
The government has provided new guidance for those who are shielding, including children, which comes into force on 6th July and 1st August. Full details here:
From Bishop Philip
Please join me in the mornings for Eucharistic Adoration, Morning Prayer and Mass in my private chapel in Bishop’s House, Portsmouth. I am live-streaming the Liturgy over these days. The liturgies are simple and I (or Fr. Philip, Bishop’s Secretary) usually offer a short message, inspired by the daily Readings. At the Mass, you are invited to make a Spiritual Communion. Details of how to connect are given on the special page on the Diocesan website here.
